Story

Gionata began to study martial arts in 1979, at 9 years old. He studied  Judo, Kung Fu Wu tao, Taekwondo, Savate, Wong Shun Leung Wing Chun, Kali and Wing Chun with Nino Bernado and Muay Thai (with Payap).

After watching the UFC fighting event and be very impressed with Royce Gracie results, he wanted to try first hand Gracie Jiu Jitsu; he took on a free Gracie Jiu Jitsu class offered at the Miami Gracie academy, he sparred with a student who only had 1 year of Gracie Jiu Jitsu training and no other preview experiences in fighting or other martial arts.

Even Gionata had over 21 years in training different martial arts a Gracie student with only 1 year experience submitted Gionata several time within few minutes without for Gionata to be able to defend himself once. Gionata then realized that Gracie Jiu Jitsu is very efficient and leave no space to mistakes.. he began to study it full time under Pedro Valente tutoring.

• Rafael "Gordinho" Corrêa (Gracie Barra, Barra de Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

• Royler Gracie (Gracie Humaita, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

• Vinicius Aieta (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

• Saulo Ribeiro (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

• Helio 'Soneca' Moreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Now Gionata is training under Helio 'Soneca' Moreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and he is now a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Gionata lives in Thailand (Bangkok / Phuket)  where he teaches seminars and private lessons. In Thailand he organizes short Gracie self defense seminars.

In 2001, together with Sal Garcia, ex manager di Tito Ortiz, and Todd Barlow, Gionata organized the first ever Thailand vale tudo (MMA) tournament in Bangkok.
