Gionata

began to study martial arts in 1979, at 9 years old. He studied  Judo, Kung Fu Wu tao, Taekwondo, Savate, Wong Shun Leung Wing Chun, Kali, Nino Bernado Wing Chun and Muay Thai.

After watching the UFC fighting event, he was very impressed with Royce Gracie performances. He wanted to try first hand Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

He took a free Gracie Jiu Jitsu class offered at the Miami Gracie academy where he sparred with a student who only had 1 year of Gracie Jiu Jitsu training and no other previous martial arts experience arts.

Even though Gionata had trained for over 20 years in different martial arts, the Gracie student with only 1 year experience submitted Gionata several times within few minutes without Gionata being able to defend himself once. Gionata then realized that Gracie Jiu Jitsu is very efficient and leaves no space for mistakes. He began to study it full time.

He studied Gracie barra jiu jitsu with several Brazilian teachers, before teaming up with Helio "SONECA" Moreira:

  • Pedro Valente (Gracie Miami)

  • Ari Galo (head instructor of Carlson Gracie academy, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Robin Gracie (Barcelona, Spain)

  • Royce Gracie

  • Giorge Beraldi (Arena Jiu Jitsu, Curitiba, Brazil)

  • Bolao Jiu Jitsu students (Bolao Jiu Jitsu, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Rafael "Gordinho" Corr๊a (Gracie Barra, Barra de Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Royler Gracie (Gracie Humaita, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Vinicius Aieta (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Saulo Ribeiro (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Letitia Ribeiro (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Morango (Gracie Tijiuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

  • Cirillo Azevedo ( Gracie Jiu Jitsu, CA Team, Brazil)

  • Helio 'Soneca' Moreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

During a training trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Gionata begun to train with Helio "SONECA"  Moreira.
Gionata now is a purple belt and represents "Soneca" and his association in Asian countries. Gionata lives in Phuket where he teaches private classes and open mat no gi session in PATONG.
